In the year 1919 13th June, Vero was Chartered. Six years later Vero switched from being a part of the St. Lucie County and became the seat of Indian River County. It is during this very time that it got officially renamed ‘VERO BEACH’. However, there are quite a couple of theories that tend to question when the city got its original name.
As expected with any other strategically placed city in the United States, the US Navy selected some 1,500 acres that surrounded the Vero Beach Municipal Airport for Naval Amphibious Training (Fort Pierce Naval Amphibious Training Base). This was in the year 1942 during the World War2 era. As a result of the bombing practices carried out during the WWII, Army Corps has ever since carried out extensive clearings of explosives as well as other possible dangerous items.
